Search and usage restrictions

Some of the items and cataloguing information in the Federal Archives are subject to terms of protection under the provisions of the Federal Archives Act (BArchG) and are therefore not freely available on the Internet.

In addition to the regulations of the Federal Archives Act, other legal regulations may restrict the search or use of archive material.

The terms of protection for searches and the use of archive material may be lifted in individual cases following a review (Section 12 BArchG). In such cases, you will have to submit an application for the use of the material and, if applicable, a request to have the term of protection shortened. Please contact the responsible department. Once restricted items in the archive have been unlocked for use, the basis of your search may be larger. Usage restrictions can either apply to searches for cataloguing information, the request of archive material or both.

Once you have been granted the right to access restricted information, it will only be displayed after you have signed in to invenio and only in the reading rooms at the Federal Archives, unless you have signed in with your eID.
